Ukraine’s Energy Resilience: Generator Imports Up 2.3x, Battery Imports Rise 55%

Ukraine is rapidly strengthening the technological resilience of its energy system. In 2025, imports of generators and energy storage systems reached record levels, as communities and industrial players actively invest in their own energy independence.

According to data from the State Customs Service, imports of electric generating sets and rotary electric converters in 2025 increased 2.3 times compared to the previous year, reaching USD 1.691 billion.

The largest distributors of generator equipment were:

• Romania — 21.8% (USD 369.2 million)

• Czech Republic — 17.9% (USD 301.8 million)

• Poland — 11% (USD 191.4 million)

European manufacturers are effectively forming a new energy supply bridge for Ukraine.

At the same time, the energy storage segment is also expanding rapidly. Imports of batteries and separators increased by 55%, reaching USD 1.476 billion.

The primary producer and supplier remains China, accounting for 76% of deliveries (USD 1.12 billion), followed by Vietnam (USD 97 million) and Taiwan (USD 54.6 million). However, China’s share is gradually declining — last year it exceeded 84%, indicating a diversification of supply markets.
