Wind Energy Gains Momentum: More Than 10 GW of New Wind Projects Planned in Ukraine

Ukraine’s wind energy sector is moving beyond isolated projects toward large-scale, systematic development. According to the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), the pipeline of wind power projects planned for implementation between 2027 and 2033 now exceeds 10 GW.

This demonstrates that developers and investors continue to view Ukraine as a promising renewable energy market despite the ongoing challenges of war.

Importantly, the industry’s growth is no longer limited to future plans. During the first half of 2026, Ukraine commissioned 70 modern wind turbines with a combined capacity of 414.8 MW—one of the strongest annual performances in recent years and a clear sign that wind energy construction is steadily regaining momentum.

More Than 5 GW Could Be Added Within Three Years

According to UWEA’s projections, the pace of development is expected to accelerate significantly over the next several years.

Forecast additions include:

• 2027: 1,424 MW
• 2028: 1,773 MW
• 2029: 1,972 MW

If these projects are delivered as planned, Ukraine will add more than 5 GW of new wind capacity in just three years.

For comparison, this amount of generation capacity is comparable to several large nuclear power units and has the potential to significantly reshape Ukraine’s electricity mix.

Why It Matters

Wind power is becoming one of the key pillars of Ukraine’s energy recovery.

Following extensive damage to conventional generation facilities, the country urgently needs new sources of electricity that can be deployed relatively quickly while supporting long-term energy security.
